Laguna Woods Veterans

Philanthropy is a big part of the vision and mission of the Crazy Quilters. Every year we donate quilts to a variety of organizations. In December the Guild made a special presentation to Laguna Woods Veterans. Karen Henriksen provided the following write-up and photos of the event.

On Tuesday, December 16, 2025, members of the Crazy Quilters guild presented Honor Quilts to veterans at the Laguna Woods Democratic Club’s holiday event. Nancy Allen, Betty Khzouz, Joy Kerr, Donna Karbach and Karen Henriksen were invited to the Laguna Woods Democratic Club’s holiday event to award Honor Quilts to eight veterans who are all residents of Laguna Woods. The veterans were nominated to receive Honor Quilts by the Democratic Club.

They served in the Army, Air Force and Coast Guard. Laguna Woods City Councilmember, Cynthia Conners was a JAG officer who served from 1975-85. Mike Gaskins, Ernie Gulner, Paul Kline, Ray Perlstein, Gary Bain and Ken Levin all served during the Vietnam War era. Fred Williams served in the Army during the Korean War era at a time when the military was segregated.

Club President, Mary Ribando, expressed her appreciation on behalf of the veterans. “I can’t thank you enough for what you’ve shared with our club and the eight veterans who received your stunning gifts! Your beautiful work and generosity made last night very special.”
